Sandringham VCAL

Sandringham VCAL students attend classes at school three days a week: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Most of the projects are of a practical nature or include life and work skills and the strands include Literacy, Numeracy, Work Skills, Personal Development. Students usually also do a VCE subjects. They might elect from Agriculture and Horticulture, Physical Education, Wood, Outdoor and Environmental Studies, Studio Arts, Business Management, Visual Communication and Design.

Students must do a VET study (or a School Based Apprenticeship), and there is a long list to choose from. This might be Hospitality or Music (that is taught at Sandringham Senior Campus) or Building or Sport & Recreation (at Holmesglen TAFE). Usually this is conducted on a Wednesday.

Usually there are no classes scheduled Friday and it is an expectation that students use this day to work (although some students have to wait until they have finished OH&S units in WRS1 before they can start a work placement). Most students simply continue to work in their part time job, others begin an SBAT (School Based Apprenticeship Training), and others elect to gain experience in an industry by doing a Work Placement.

Personal Development electives change from year to year but include: My Melbourne, Super Coach & Show Me the Money, Boot Camp, Building Projects, Express Yourself, The Beat and Food and Me.
